Re: Torquay/ Dartmouth

We're based in the Exe Estuary just around the coast so can thoroughly recommend this part of the country! The answer to your question really depends on whether you want to spend time at sea or in the river. Torquay is set in a lovely bay but can be a bit lumpy in southerly winds. Dartmouth is much ...

Re: Question for Shetland Family 4 MK2 water leak!

Hi Christian In my F4 the drain simply goes straight out through the side. That's why it needs to be above the water line so you don't get water flooding in that way, but it's not a big hole - maybe 12mm? It's also got a kind of liner inside the hole that I guess it to try to stop water getting into...

Re: Pesky seagulls!

Thanks Bob I'll keep scrubbing then! Detergent is certainly worth a try. As for blasting them to bits that's certainly attractive but might not build good relationships with other boat owners who might not appreciate being rained on by the resultant goo quite apart from the marina staff and river po...

Pesky seagulls!

Has anyone got a foolproof method for removing seagull cack from my nice new canopy? Hopefully something that won't pollute the ocean but will work effectively. We seem to be a target for every gull in the estuary, judging by the amount of noxious stuff I've just tried to scrape off and the bits of ...

Re: Question for Shetland Family 4 MK2 water leak!

Hello Christian I agree with the other replies here. You should have a drain hole in your anchor locker below the u-bolt but above the waterline so any rain water etc can drain out. My locker doesn't have a lip around the top edge either so I can only assume the drain hole is considered to be enough...

Re: Useful Android Apps

I'm using MX Mariner on a Google Nexus 7. The app is about £5 I think and the UKHO charts about £10 per (pretty extensive) region. Seems good so far!

Re: Down south

Hi Paul

Sorry I missed you today - busy all day, but I hope you had a really good day out there! Brilliant weather and a smooth sea - perfect conditions to try out your engine.

Maybe catch up next time and find one of those posh pubs we're apparently famous for!

Re: Down south

Hi Paul
I'm in Exmouth so a meet sounds good. Only just bought one and I'm still fixing stuff so not on the water yet but hoping to get out there before the season finally fizzles out!
Let me know when you're here?

Re: chartplotter apps

Cheers guys. Looks like I need to consider 10inch, and I'll investigate both MX and Navionics. I don't intend to go very far but I really don't want to get lost in fog that can come up quite suddenly here! Just need something fairly basic to make sure we're all safe. Many thanks for your advice. David

chartplotter apps

Hi all I'm thinking of buying a tablet to use as a chartplotter for coastal trips, but there seem to be all sorts of bits of feedback out there! Does anyone have some advice for me - ipad? Google Nexus? Samsung tablet? I was thinking primarily of the Nexus because I thought a 10 inch screen was a bi...
