Re: Microplus 502

Hi, The 40hp 2 stroke will get you up to about 18-20mph, with two adults on board. You will get about 1 - 1.2miles per litre from it at full revs and about 1.7mpl at tick over or 4-5mph. A four stroke will get you about 1.8mpl at full revs, but the initial purchase price will be higher. If you inten...

Re: my first topic

Hi Katylipe, An easy way to tell if your boat is a 535 or a 536/F4 is the underwater profile of the hull. If it is V shape with some horizontal ribs or chines, then it is a 535. If it is shaped like a sea birds wings or gullwinged, with smooth surfaces then it is a 536 or a Family Four. The differen...

Re: Chart plotter recommendation

Hi, Smartphones use both data and gps, you can still get a position fix, albeit rather slowly, without phone coverage. Tablets may have an on board gps receiver set or may need an external aerial. You would need to consider the strength and integrity of any plug sockets in use, such as micro USB, if...

Re: Chart plotter recommendation

Hi, Do your tablets easily talk to your dsc vhf over nmea2000 protocol for reliable transmission of position data should you ever have to hit your distress button? Do they have good secure mounts to cope with really heavy seas, and do they have easily accessible MOB buttons? These are three benefits...

Re: Hessian

Hi,

I took a piece of what I thought was hessian from my F4 to an upholsterers to see if I could get something similar, and it turned out it was actually a basket weave chenille that had aged badly.
I then bought some from eBay.

Re: Need Help - Black Marlin 23

Hi, There is a remarkably similar boat listed here as a Black Marlin made by Forge Marine; http://www.western-horizon.co.uk/archive_boat.php?boat_id=230 Shetland have been known to buy in mouldings by other boat makers at various times (there is an Australian moulded bow-rider ski boat at Neyland Ya...

Re: Advice

Hi,

Solar powered vents with rechargeable batteries make a huge difference, as does covering any exposed grp with fabric or carpet.

Re: Family Four 30 hp

Hello Ed, A Family four should plane at between 14-16mph, depending on loading and trim. I wouldn't be surprised if you can't get on the plane very often with a 30hp 4 stroke. I only just managed it with a 40hp 2 stroke, much better when I had a 50hp 2 stroke, and great with my 70hp 4 stroke. 2strok...

Re: NEW MEMBER JOINING SOA

Hi Paul,
Welcome to the SOA.
The 536 went through a couple of changes before being renamed the Family Four, with the F4 mk5 finally losing the last of the 536 details such as the shape of the windscreen. If you are not sure exactly what you have got, look at the specs for early F4 models too.

Re: Boat trailer

Hi,

A word to the wise, but don't forget the weight of the trailer itself needs to be deducted from the capacity, before you add up the boat, engine and extras.

Hope this helps
